Tua Tagovailoa to limit participation in Dolphins training camp amid contract delays
In the midst of working out a contract extension, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will limit his participation in Miami's training camp for now. Tagovailoa is in the fifth and final season of his rookie contract and is looking for an extension before the start of the 2024 season.
Some wondered whether Tagovailoa would hold out or hold in, similar to Jordan Love's situation with Green Bay. Miami got some good news yesterday when star wide receiver Tyreek Hill told reporters that Tagovailoa is in great spirits and present in the building during contract negotiations.
As Tagovailoa and the Dolphins continue to work out a deal, NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe provided an update on Tagovailoa's situation in a tweet:
"Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa will participate similar to OTAs during training camp. He did individual drills and 7-on-7 drills but not any 11-on-11 drills. HC Mike McDaniel said it’s important to acknowledge Tua is in the process of contract negotiations and it’s fluid."
Tagovailoa is coming off the best regular season of his NFL career, completing a career-best 69.3 percent of passes for 4,624 yards and 29 pass touchdowns. He was also named to his first Pro Bowl.
Raheem Mostert praises Tua Tagovailoa's leadership
As per Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, Tua Tagovailoa's contract delay isn't causing any distractions within the team, and they are handling it with a day-to-day approach. There is some optimism that a deal will be finalized before the start of the season.
Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert spoke to the media yesterday morning showing support for his quarterback:
“The leadership that he portrays, one of the best, if not the best leader in the locker-room and for the organization. He deserves everything that he has coming his way and more.”
Miami ranked first in offensive yards last season and second in total points. With players such as Tagovailoa, Mostert, Tyreek Hill, De'Von Achane, Jaylen Waddle, Odell Beckham Jr., and others, they have the potential to be the best offense in the NFL this season. The question is, will that be before or after Tua Tagovailoa's extension?
