Tyrann Mathieu downplays Super Bowl talk as Saints display domination in dual blowout wins

Tyrann Mathieu is no stranger to playing in the Super Bowl. As a veteran who has played on the biggest stage in American sports, he knows what it takes to get there. While back-to-back blowout wins are encouraging, the safety knows that getting to the Super Bowl in New Orleans is a long way away.

Speaking on a September 19 edition of 'Good Morning Football,' the Saints safety pumped the brakes.

"Even though we're off to a great start this season, I would like to see us just continue to get better, and hopefully hit our peak in November, December, January because the teams that play well in those areas are the teams that are really going to have a chance to play for the trophy," he said (at 9:22).
"It'll be an honor to be able to make it that far but I recognize too it's a lot of work, and it's a lot of time between Week 3 and the Super Bowl," he added.

The New Orleans Saints defeated the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 by a score of 47-10. Then, in Week 2, the team defeated the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 44-19.

For decades, fans awaited for the first team to win a Super Bowl in their stadium. Then, it happened twice in two seasons. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won it all in Raymond James Stadium with Tom Brady in 2020. Then, in 2021, the Rams won it in Sofi Stadium.

After erupting to a 2-0 head start, the Saints are just one of a handful of undefeated teams in pursuit of the Super Bowl. Should Derek Carr and company reach the Big Game, they would be the first team to reach it in their own stadium in three years.

Of course, as Mathieu indicated, it is going to take another five months of great play to get there. Injuries, figured-out schemes, and the growth of hubris have felled plenty of 2-0 teams in past years. Are the Saints for real? As of now, they might be the team to beat in the NFL, which includes Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs.

If nothing else, Tyrann Mathieu's team has made a statement against the entire NFC.
