"Go cry on set" - Tyreek Hill claps back at Nick Wright after beating Patrick Mahomes to #1 in NFL Top 100 list

The NFL's Top 100 Players of 2024 were made official on Friday, August 2, when the league announced the top 10 this week. Most, if not all, expected Patrick Mahomes to reclaim the top spot especially after the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback wrapped up a third Super Bowl win in five years.

Alas, that was not meant to be. Instead, Mahomes was demoted to #4 on the NFL's Top 100 Players of 2024. The top three shaped up like this:

3] Christian McCaffrey

2] Lamar Jackson

1] Tyreek Hill

Naturally, there were more than a few debates over how Tyreek Hill was placed at #1 over Lamar Jackson, who was crowned NFL MVP for the second time, and Patrick Mahomes, who was crowned a Super Bowl champion for the third time. NFL analyst Nick Wright said as much when he posted a tweet pointing out that Mahomes triumphed over all three players listed above him in the NFL's 2024 Top 100 list. Tyreek Hill, who's known to be pretty active on social media platform X, promptly took notice of Wright's post and tweeted in response:

"Go cry on set tomorrrow."

Tyreek Hill becomes first non-QB to be named #1 on NFL Top 100 List

The NFL has been putting out a Top 100 list for 14 years now and a quarterback has taken top spot in all those years barring 2024.

Mahomes was number one in 2023. Tom Brady was number one in 2022 for the fourth and final time in his career. Mahomes took top spot in 2021 as well while Lamar Jackson was named QB supreme the year before.

Tyreek Hill broke the QB streak this year and there is an argument to be made over why he deserved the top spot. All season, Hill appeared to be keeping pace with breaking Calvin Johnson's single-season receiving record (1,964). Hill ultimately finished with a league-leading 1,799 receiving yards on 119 receptions and 13 receiving touchdowns. Only a late-season ankle injury stopped the Dolphins playmaker from etching his name in the history books.

It's important to note that this list is voted on by NFL players themselves, which shows just how highly regarded Tyreek Hill is by his peers despite Mahomes and Jackson's accomplishments this year. When all is said and done, you could probably make an argument over Hill taking precedence over Tua Tagovailoa as the Dolphins' most important player.
