Tyreek Hill has a dark past Dolphins superstar wishes NFL world forgot

A few months ago, Tyreek Hill was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Miami Dolphins. Despite the team change, the wide receiver continues to dominate the league. His numbers have been historical, making his one of the best seasons for a wide receiver in the league.

That being said, Hill has come out of a relatively dark past. While newer fans might not be aware, the Dolphins star has been a part of various legal issues. Some even range back to his college life.

Currently in the seventh season of his career, the Dolphins have maintained their faith in Hill. He has 81 catches for 1,148 yards, scoring four touchdowns in 10 games this season and playing well.

Previously, Hill had a domestic violence case filed against him during his college year. In 2019, he had a child abuse investigation launched against him. There were also issues surrounding Hill's draft.

Considering the grave nature of the offense and arrest, many expected Hill not to be drafted by the Chiefs. Ultimately, though, the Chiefs ended up drafting him at No. 165 overall during the 2016 NFL Draft.

Tyreek Hill was arrested for domestic assault while in college

In 2014, Crystal Espinal was eight weeks pregnant with Hill's child. As per reports, Hill had punched her in the stomach and choked her, making her concerned for the child's safety.

This was when Hill had begun playing Division-I football at Oklahoma State. He was arrested on the charges and could only play one season. The college dismissed him from their programs before which Hill was charged with domestic assault and battery.

"Oklahoma State University does not tolerate domestic abuse or violence," a statement said.

After pleading guilty, Hill ultimately received three years on probation. The Oklahoman reports on the same, revealing details about his probation.

"The plea agreement was eventually reached thanks in part to Hill’s voluntary efforts. Along with more than $1,000 in fines and court costs, a DNA sample, two years of state supervision, and proof of employment or student status, Hill’s probation requires he complete an anger management course and a 52-week Batterer’s Intervention Program."

He joined the Tigers in 2015, playing one season before the draft.

Tyreek Hill's child abuse investigation

On March 15, 2019, Hill was investigated for abusing his three-year-old son. The Chiefs, aware of the same, allowed him to practice during the offseason program. While he lost the custody of his son following the investigation, neither Espinal nor Tyreek Hill was charged.

Espinal: "He's terrified of you."

Hill: "You need to be terrified of me too, b****."

"I love and support my family above anything," Hill said. "My son's health and happiness is my number one priority. I want to thank the Kansas City Chiefs, my attorneys, my agent and my union for supporting me through this".

A recording of Espinal with the wide receiver was revealed, apparently about the reported abuse. Considering the details, the Chiefs suspended Hill. The NFL refused to interfere further.

A portion of the Tyreek Hill audio with Crystal Espinal:

Espinal: "What do you do when the child is bad? You make him open up his arms and you punch him in the chest."

Hill: “You do use a belt. That’s sad,” Hill said. “Even my mama says you use a belt.”

Later, on June 7, it was reported that the investigation was no longer valid. Hill wasn't suspended, and the NFL left the decision to local law enforcement.

There have been multiple views about the situation, and many were dissatisfied with the NFL.

However, one cannot deny Tyreek Hill's performance, which only seems to improve with time. Despite previous problems, fans have continued to support him, hoping for another achievement and a Super Bowl in the future.
