US Congressman Jamaal Bowman suggests Jets owner Woody Johnson was “p**sed” at Robert Saleh for showcasing Lebanese heritage
Robert Saleh is no longer the head coach of the New York Jets, per Adam Schefter. Considering the early stage of the season and a 2-3 record, Saleh's exit has left plenty of questions. Some blame the offensive standstill, while others believe Aaron Rodgers might have had a hand in the choice to move on.
However, New York's congressman representative, Jamaal Bowman, believes it didn't help matters that Saleh was spotted wearing a Lebanon patch in London. Taking to Twitter/X, Bowman wrote:
"The owner was also probably pissed at Saleh for wearing the Lebanon patch at Sundays game. Same ol Jets unfortunately," he posted.
Robert Saleh's Jets have seen several brutal showings since starting the 2024 season. Aaron Rodgers was taken out of a Week 1 blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Then, in Week 4, the team lost to the Denver Broncos at Metlife Stadium by a 10-9 final score.
In Week 5, the Jets were blown out early on against the Minnesota Vikings but clawed their way back into the contest, losing by a score.
Woody Johnson's Robert Saleh firing marks first in-season firing for Jets owner
Most head coaches are fired the first Monday after the season's final game. However, Robert Saleh was let go after only five games.
It isn't a lever Johnson has ever pulled this early in the season before. The New York Jets as an organization have not had a mid-season coaching change since 1976, and that change came at the end of the season, per Adam Schefter.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the team's interim head coach for the remainder of the season, marking another choice made by Johnson.
The Jets already have Nathaniel Hackett on staff, who was head coach for the Denver Broncos in 2022. This will be Ulbrich's first run as the head coach of a football team. Will he prove himself to be the man for the job in 2025?
