Was Stetson Bennett hiding from Dallas Police? Fresh details emerge from Georgia QB’s public intoxication arrest
Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett was arrested on Jan. 28 in Dallas, Texas, for public intoxication after banging on doors in a residential area around 6 a.m.
The back-to-back national champion had complaints called on him about him banging on apartment doors and at the time of their arrival, police labeled him as intoxicated.
He was then taken to a city detention center.
The Athens Banner-Herald released a police statement on Tuesday revealing details that arose during Bennett's arrest.
According to the report via the New York Post:
“[Bennett was] walking further back in the gated area to hide behind a brick wall by a random (apartment) in attempt to possibly avoid (the arresting officers) detection.”
Police then asked Bennett to come out from behind the wall to which he didn't. They said he reeked of alcohol and if not arrested he could have potentially become a victim of a crime.
Will Stetson Bennett's arrest effect his draft stock?
Prior to his arrest and details emerging from it, Bennett was a projected to be a third-round pick by draft expert/guru, Mel Kiper Jr.
Despite leading the Georgia Bulldogs to back-to-back national championships, Bennett wasn't rated as a top prospect.
He is 25 years old as he enters the NFL draft and will turn 26 by October, becoming very old for a rookie. On top of his age, Bennett lacks the ideal NFL QB size.
He's listed at 5-foot-11 and only weighs 190 pounds.
Despite his flaws, he led Georgia to back-to-back national championships the past two seasons.
Stetson Bennett was the national championship offensive MVP in both games and won the Manning Award and Burlsworth Trophy in 2022.
He's thrown for 10,265 yards, 82 touchdowns, 35 interceptions, 205 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns in his collegiate career.
