WATCH: Caleb Williams visibly upset on sideline after frustrating first half vs Colts
As the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft, Caleb Williams had plenty of hype upon his arrival to the NFL. However, the start of the regular season has left the quarterback frustrated.
The Chicago Bears have gone 1-1 in the first two games of the season. However, in victory and defeat, Williams has been average. Today, the Bears are up against the Indianapolis Colts on the road, and his play continues to be average.
The Colts led in the second quarter by a score of 7-0. The entire Bears team, including Caleb Williams, have not been firing during this game, a feeling that became obvious when the cameras captured the 22-year-old’s emotions as coach Matt Eberflus called for a timeout.
The NFL on CBS X account, formerly known as Twitter, sums it up:
“Caleb Williams looking a bit frustrated on the sidelines.”
In his rookie season, Williams has not yet scored a touchdown. On top of that, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner has thrown three interceptions, including one against the Colts earlier today. In two games, Williams has been sacked 9 times and fumbled the ball once. If the season doesn’t improve for the youngster, he is bound to be frustrated the rest of the year.
NFL analyst wants Caleb Williams to be benched
After two mediocre performances in his rookie season, Mike Renner of CBS Sports spoke out. He suggested that Caleb Williams be benched to avoid a situation like other promising quarterbacks who could not kickstart their NFL career. Renner discussed his thoughts during an appearance on the "Check The Mic with Steve and Sam" podcast.
“That's a bad start. Benching him is a tough pill to swallow. But I don't think he's developing good habits. It's like he's not getting better at the things we said he needed to get better on from USC to the NFL. He's probably getting worse at it,” said Renner.
However, the Bears have limited options at quarterback and benching Williams might not be the solution.
