WATCH: Commanders star Jayden Daniels pays heartwarming tribute to ex-LSU teammate battling with cancer
Jayden Daniels' compassion for his former LSU teammate, Greg Brooks Jr., is winning hearts. Ahead of the Washington Commanders' game against the Dallas Cowboys, the rookie QB wore a graphic T-shirt to honor Brooks Jr., who is battling brain cancer.
The T-shirt featured an image of Greg Brooks Jr. in his LSU uniform, alongside the phrases: "For Brooks" and "Love You."
Daniels and Brooks only played one season together, between 2022 and 2023, after the Commanders QB was transferred to LSU from Arizona State.
Brooks Jr., who was an LSU captain, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain cancer, Medulloblastoma last year. Following surgery to discard the tumor, he began a rehabilitation process at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
In March 2024, six months after Brooks Jr. went under the knife, LSU coach Brian Kelly gave an update about his health.
“We haven’t gotten much information over the last month because of where he is,” Kelly said as reported by On3. “We know he’s in intensive daily rehabilitation. He’s up, walking, doing all those things. Doing all of the occupational rehabilitation. It’s just a slow process. But everything is coming back. It’s just a slow, slow process.”
In the latest development, Fox 8 reported last month that Greg Brooks Jr. has filed a lawsuit against LSU over medical malpractice. For now, LSU has avoided breaking the silence on the litigation. The hearing for the case will take place on February 10, 2025.
Greg Brooks Jr. and Jayden Daniels joined LSU as part of the same transfer class
After arriving as transfer students in 2022, both Greg Brooks Jr. and Jayden Daniels had a shared dream of shining at LSU.
Quickly becoming the leaders of the team, they were named team captains by the start of the NCAA Football 2023 season. But fate had other plans.
Brooks Jr.'s NFL dreams hit a bummer when an MRI revealed he had a brain tumor. On the other hand, his fellow then-teammate, Daniels went on to win the Heisman Trophy after an excellent 2023 season.
Next, as Jayden Daniels was drafted by the Washington Commanders in the 2024 NFL Draft, his debut was spectacular. By the middle of the ongoing season, in Week 8, the rookie QB became a frontrunner for the NFL MVP award following his great performances.
