WATCH: Drake Maye stuns with no-look pass during Patriots OTAs

Drake Maye's talent was on full display at OTAs on Thursday, May 30. The rookie quarterback is engaged in a quarterback battle with Jacoby Brissett after being selected third overall. Thus far, it has been positive for Maye. There's still a long way to go before the season begins, but he looks promising.

On Thursday, Maye moved to his left and kept his eyes straight downfield. He then hurled a throw across his body to an open receiver, all while keeping his eyes away from his objective. It was a superb toss that his pass-catcher effortlessly caught.

The no-look pass is something not everyone can pull off. Patrick Mahomes has made it popular, but Matthew Stafford has also pulled it out from time to time. It implies a certain level of talent, though there is a difference between doing that in a game and doing it in training camp.

Nevertheless, it's one of the first things Maye has done with his new team. After being drafted out of UNC, there has been talk about when he might start. Making throws like that one will only help his chances of being in the lineup when the Patriots take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1.

Jerod Mayo opens up on Drake Maye's progress

Considered one of the more raw NFL QB prospects due to his age, Drake Maye's growth in training camp will be vital. The team hasn't put any sort of timeline on his start, but he's reportedly doing well.

Via the New England Patriots website, head coach Jerod Mayo said:

"He is taking advantage of the opportunities he gets. We're all being evaluated. Hopefully, everyone is open to feedback. [Vice President of Communications] Stacey [James] just told me some things I did wrong the last time I was up here, so it's all good."

OTAs are an important time for rookies. It follows a rookie minicamp, but it finally allows them to practice with the regulars of the team they're joining. Maye gets to throw to Kendrick Bourne and others that he will in the regular season, for example.
