WATCH: Jets fan burning Aaron Rodgers jersey goes viral
Aaron Rodgers historically has been a magnet for jersey sales. However, an increasing number of Jets fans are becoming disillusioned with the franchise this season as the team continues to spiral downwards. At 2-6, the franchise has a much worse record than Zach Wilson's unit at this time last year.
Taking things to a new extreme, one Jets fan recorded himself/herself burning Aaron Rodgers' jersey. In the brief 30-second clip, the fan flashed a look at the score of the team's 22-25 loss to the New England Patriots before dropping a Rodgers jersey into a fire pit, watching it slowly turn to ash.
The clip has blown up, accruing 1.3 million views in under two days since the Patriots beat the Jets. The loss stung extra for Jets fans who believed their team was hitting a new height not seen in a decade following the Jets' first matchup against the team.
In their first battle, Rodgers' New York Jets dismantled the team in primetime by a score of 24-3 on Thursday Night Football, to climb to 2-1 in the season. Of course, arguably, the biggest difference between the first matchup and the second was the Patriots quarterback.
Jacoby Brissett finished the second matchup but Drake Maye started in the game. In the first matchup, Maye had finished the contest while Brissett had started.
Michael Irvin suggests next steps for Aaron Rodgers as Jets QB enters dark place
The Jets quarterback has now lost five straight games to slip to 2-6, just a few weeks away from clinching a losing season. Speaking on the "IT IS WHAT IT IS" podcast, former Cowboys superstar Michael Irvin suggested it might be time for another drug-fuelled retreat.
“He goes on a retreat every year where he makes peace in the dark. There’s ayahuasca. I just think it’s another form of smoking weed retreat," Irvin said.
Of course, Rodgers has infamously trumped the value of a darkness retreat and the usage of ayahuasca on occasion, creating big-time offseason storylines in the process. It is unclear how Rodgers can get back on track this season or even in the last year of his deal next season.
However, one thing clear is that the Jets have some soul-searching to do across the board if they want to finally pull themselves out of the doldrums anytime soon.
