WATCH: Jonathan Owens planning new Simone Biles-inspired celebration for 2024 NFL season
Jonathan Owens went to France to watch his wife Simone Biles make history at the recently-concluded 2024 Paris Olympics. Now he is back at the Chicago Bears camp with a grand idea inspired by her sport.
In a preview of Tuesday's episode of Hard Knocks, the safety can be heard conversing with fellow defensive backs Josh Blackwell and Elijah Hicks about how to celebrate turnovers. The latter suggests flipping in case of an interception, but Owens tries to override him, suggesting a salute instead.
His suggestion is a probable reference to when Biles held her salute until leaving the mat after her routine in the floor final. It was her response to being docked 0.3 points after her routine in the balance beam final for not saluting the judges.
Jonathan Owens talked about Simone Biles' gymnastics routines
Jonathan Owens knows Simone Biles' career very well. In another Hard Knocks clip posted last week, he said:
“I try to remember her routines. It’ll be like random times, she’ll be on the floor [and] does something and then she does that. I try to be up there and knowing the beats, so I know what’s going on.”
He continued:
“I’m just sitting there watching, especially when she’s on beam. Beam, like, trips me out. I’ve tried to be on it [and] I’m like, ‘Babe, it’s no way y’all are doing flips, just land on it.’ But blind landings [and] all this type of stuff? I’m just watching [holding my breath].”
Jonathan Owens won't force his future children with Simone Biles to become athletes
Recently, Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles said that parenthood is part of their future plans. Speaking to People last week, Owens addressed whether their children should emulate their parents in becoming athletes.
“If that’s what they want to do, I’m not going to try to force anything on them. Obviously, they’re going to know what their parents did, so that’ll be just something cool for them to look at and for us to be able to relive those stories and memories with them,” Owens said. “But honestly, whatever they want to do, I’ll just support them a hundred percent."
Besides the upcoming football season, the couple is currently focusing on overseeing the construction of their mansion in Texas.
