WATCH: Massive fight erupts as Falcons and Saints fans exchange punches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium

The Atlanta Falcons beat the New Orleans Saints, who were touted as playoff contenders after they put up a collective 91 points in their first two games of the season.

But then the Saints lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 15-12, and it was as if their magic had fizzled. The Falcons walked into Mercedes-Benz stadium 1-2, while the Saints were 2-1. They both walked out 2-2 after Younghoe Koo's 58-yard field goal with 2 seconds remaining lifted Atlanta 28-26.

However, afterward, things took an ugly turn in Atlanta, as the two rival fanbases clashed with each other. One video showed a Falcons fan brutally kicking the head of a Saints fan multiple times. A woman could be seen trying to restrain the man.

Towards the end of the video, the fan was lying motionless on the bleachers.

Another Atlanta fan appeared to drag a Saints fan on top of the chairs.

"Multiple women in attendance got pretty seriously injured, due to the many fights that broke out," MLFootball tweeted.

According to the caption, it wasn't the only fight that happened at the stadium.

Why did the Falcons wear red helmets at the game?

The Falcons wore their throwback 1996 helmets in the game against the Saints. That was their first game as a new team in the NFL.

Just two years ago, the team switched to red helmets for a game, and fans instantly fell in love with it.

Speaking about the throwback helmets, Atlanta safety Erik Harris said:

“I think anytime you can wear any type of throwback and you see the guys that came before you – Hall of Famers and really good players – it’s pretty cool that you can wear that same uniform, especially the red."

The Falcons will face the Saints again in November in New Orleans.

But the Saints want to ensure that a repeat of today's game does not happen again. After the matchup, Saints QB Derek Carr said:

“Just as a team we’re in a much better place."

He did not point fingers at anyone, saying that they would get back stronger in the next game. That next game happens to be against the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
