WATCH: Patriots rookie Ja'Lynn Polk impresses with first career TD

New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk now has a touchdown to add to his young NFL resume. Polk caught a 5-yard pass in the end zone from veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett with just about five minutes remaining in the first quarter on Sunday, getting the home crowd at Gillette Stadium on their feet early in the game.

Polk's touchdown put New England on the board first, adding to the momentum the team found in the first game of the season, a win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The New England Patriots drafted Polk in the second round in April out of Washington.

Ja'Lynn Polk had just one catch in NFL debut vs. Bengals

The Jerod Mayo era kicked off with a 16-10 Week 1 win at the Cincinnati Bengals. While it was just one game, the young Patriots team is looking to build off the momentum from their first win of the season.

New England drafted wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk to add another weapon to the offense. He got a lot of experience in his NFL debut against Cincinnati, playing in 35 of the Patriots' 65 snaps. Polk had just one catch for 6 yards on his only target of the game.

Although Polk had just one catch, Patriots wide receiver coach Tyler Hughes told reporters last week that the team was impressed with his route running and is excited to see what he can do throughout the season as he develops into an NFL wide receiver.

“He’s a guy that we definitely want to continue to develop and work with, because he’s showing that he can separate, and that’s one of the most important things for any receiver is, can you separate?" Hughes said. "And he’s showing that he can do that pretty consistently.”

Polk ended his final collegiate season in Washington with 69 catches for 1,159 yards and nine touchdowns.
