Watch: Tee Higgins spikes the ball at the refs despite leading vs Ravens
Tee Higgins shocked the NFL world with his actions on Sunday. The Cincinnati Bengals picked up their first win of the season last week and were 1-3 entering the Week 5 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. AFC North divisional matchups tend to be tense and bitter but the much talked about moment that happened on the field wasn't between both teams.
Tee Higgins scored a touchdown with 8:51 minutes remaining in the third quarter. It was his second TD of the day; however, what he did next was a head-scratcher. Higgins easily ran into the end zone and proceeded to spike the ball directly at the referee standing. Videos of the incident quickly circulated on X.
The referee tried to move away as Higgins spiked the ball to protect himself from getting hit by it. The Cincinnati Bengals WR wasn't issued a penalty although the NFL could review what happened and issue a fine if they feel it was against league policy.
NFL Insider hinted that Tee Higgins could get traded before deadline
Tee Higgins made it clear that he wanted a contract extension this past offseason. He and the Bengals were unable to come to terms and the team decided to use the franchise tag on him instead.
There has been speculation that this season could be Higgins' last with the Bengals as the salary cap is an issue. The Athletic's Dianna Russini wrote on Saturday that she believes the team could move Higgins before the Nov. 5 trade deadline.
The market for WRs is rather big through the first month of the season. The injury to the Chiefs' Rashee Rice only made the interest in WRs even bigger. Russini believes that Kansas City could be a potential destination for Higgins.
"The question now: Will the Chiefs roll the dice again as they chase a three-peat? Names I’m keeping an eye on before the NFL trade deadline: Amari Cooper, Browns, Tee Higgins, Bengals, George Pickens, Steelers, Christian Kirk, Jaguars, DeAndre Hopkins, Titans," Russini wrote.
The Cincinnati Bengals haven't indicated whether they are open to trading Higgins. Russini just mentioned that perhaps he would be a good fit for a team that is in desperate need of an offensive weapon.
