“We’ll see what happens with Mr Snyder” – NBA legend Magic Johnson breaks silence on $6BN Commanders bid

Could five-time NBA Champion Magic Johnson be the newest owner of the Washington Commanders? While making an appearance on NBC's "The Today Show" on Tuesday morning, Johnson was asked that very question.

Longtime anchor and meteorologist Al Roker asked Johnson about possibly buying the Commanders. He said that his ownership group, which includes his wife Cookie, has already put their bid in and that they are hopeful that they can win.

Johnson said that they just now have to wait and see what current team owner Dan Snyder decides when choosing the potential new owner.

“Yes, our bid is in. We hope that we win. We don’t know what’s going to happen. We’ll see what happens with Mr Snyder making that decision, but we’re excited about it… We have the Dodgers, the Sparks, LAFC. We won the championship this season, so that’s great.”

Magic Johnson went on to say that he and his wife love sports and that they are hopeful that they will break into the NFL next. Johnson already has ownership stake in the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Sparks and the LA Football Club. As previously speculated, it seems that the entire process is now just awaiting the decision of Daniel Snyder.

Washington Commanders sale update: All you need to know about two frontrunners

The Washington Commanders are on the selling block and will likely bring in a whopping $6 billion. Although the initial value of the team is just over $5 billion, the bids from various potential ownership groups will exceed that amount in order to be chosen.

Something I recently heard: Magic Johnson is said to have “significant” investment as part of Josh Harris/Mitchell Rales bid. About “3x his $50m investment in Dodgers.” https://t.co/G85hLfA7Tz

As of right now, it appears that the two groups are considered to be front runners in the sale of the team. The ownership group that consists of Magic Johnson, New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris and billionaire Mitchell Rales.

The second frontrunner who has definitely put in a bid for the team is Steve Apostolopoulo, a Canadian billionaire. He has apparently put in an offer of $6 billion to purchase the Washington-based franchise. The businessman is part of one of the wealthiest families in Canada. He has had the goal of purchasing a professional sports team for a number of years and believes that the Washington Commanders are the team for him.
