What does Colin Kaepernick have planned for 2023? Ex-49ers QB's new graphic memoir is the talk of the town
Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback who started the sports world's kneeling protests during the National Anthem, has now written two books.
He hasn't played since the year his kneeling protest began and he's delved into various areas of post-football careers.
He's started a foundation and obviously, penned two books. According to PEOPLE magazine, these are just two of many:
"Yes. This is only the beginning."
He also spoke on what inspired him to get into writing these graphic novels:
"I was inspired to write Change the Game to help young people navigate complex and nuanced situations they may face with respect to identity, family and major life decisions.
"This book is intended for a slightly older audience and deals with more complex issues than I Color Myself Different. The common thread, however, is creating books that give power and agency to the reader, specifically Black and Brown youths."
He also lamented the fact that books like this weren't around when he grew up, which is a big reason he wrote them in the first place:
"I wish I had more books with lead characters that looked like me and spoke to the situations that I was dealing with and going through."
Colin Kaepernick said that he really enjoys writing, which is probably why he plans on continuing:
"The hardest part of writing this book was being meticulous in the delivery of the stories we are telling to make sure that the conveyed message is received as intended by the reader. I really enjoyed the process of creation. In many ways it felt like a puzzle and making sure all of the pieces fit in the right place to reveal a bigger picture."
What stories will he write about next?
