What happened to Charles Omenihu? 49ers player arrested days before NFC Championship game

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested on Monday afternoon, just days before he is expected to play in the NFC Championship game.

At 4:30 PM on Monday afternoon, police were called to a home in San Jose, California. A woman told police that her boyfriend, whom she said is the 49ers defensive lineman, pushed her to the ground while the two were in the middle of an argument.

The woman suffered no noticeable injuries but did say she had pain in her arm. The police spoke with Omenihu and took his statement as well, but then arrested him on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence.

Though he was taken to the Santa Clara County jail, he did post bail and was released. Police also filed for an emergency protective order which prohibits the 49ers defensive lineman from being in close distance to the woman.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office will now continue its investigation into the case.

The San Francisco 49ers released a statement on Tuesday morning confirming that they knew about the incident and were 'gathering further information'.

His status for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field is still unknown at this time. The National Football League doesn't typically hand down punishments until a police investigation is complete. It will thus be up to the 49ers to decide whether or not to activate him ahead of this week's game.
