Dallas Goedert injury update: What happened to Eagles TE?

Following their 32-21 loss to the Washington Commanders, the Philadelphia Eagles suffered an even bigger loss by losing tight end Dallas Goedert for an extended time.

#Eagles TE Dallas Goedert will miss extended time with a shoulder injury suffered in the win over the #Commanders last night, sources tell me and @TomPelissero. Not a season-ender though. Injury added to insult on the play with the missed facemask that put him in harm’s way. https://t.co/ndOPCiwKD2

In the fourth quarter of Tuesday night's game, Goedert suffered a significant shoulder injury during a controversial play that resulted in a fumble.

Here is the play on which Goedert suffered the injury:

The injury occurred during a crucial moment in the game. When linebacker Jamin Davis took Goedert to the ground on a tackle, he clearly yanked the tight end's facemask. The referees missed it and didn't make a call.

Official Alex Kemp told pool reporters after the game that he didn't see a face mask on the field and that they were checking whether or not Goedert was down before the fumble during the review.

"We didn't see a face mask on the field. As far as the review, we were reviewing whether he was down by contact or whether it was a fumble and then whether the Washington player who recovered the ball was also down by contact."
Referee Alex Kemp spoke to pool reporter @ZBerm about last night’s missed facemask call and the costly personal foul on #Eagles DE Brandon Graham: “The contact by Philadelphia No. 55 was not only late but also to the head and neck area.” https://t.co/BMIx0atiiJ

The loss to the Commanders spoiled the Eagles' chances at a perfect season. Following the loss, the Eagles are now 8-1. The second-placed New York Giants are only one game behind the Eagles at 7-2.

NFC East standings:

Eagles: 8-1
Giants: 7-2
Cowboys: 6-3
Commanders: 5-5

The Dallas Cowboys moved down to third place after losing to the Green Bay Packers this Sunday. The Commanders are 5-5 with their victory over the Eagles on Tuesday night.

There are still eight weeks of football left, and anything can happen from now until the conclusion of the regular season. But there won't be an undefeated regular-season team.
