What happened to Foster Moreau? Former Raiders TE steps away from football due to medical condition
Tight end Foster Moreau was set to play for the New Orleans Saints this season, until he received terrible news on Wednesday night. Upon signing with the team in free agency, it was discovered that Moreau has Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer.
He announced on Twitter on Wednesday evening that he will be stepping away from football this season as he battles cancer.
"Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me," Moreau tweeted. "During a routine physical conducted by the Saint’s medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football.
"At this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I’m grateful for the support and thankful for people who have stood firm with me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance.
"That being said, I’ll go kick this thing’s ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!"
The New Orleans native who played at LSU had 91 receptions for 1,107 yards and 12 touchdowns in four seasons with the Raiders.
The New Orleans Saints medical staff has detected serious injuries to a few players upon arrival in the past 10 years
A similar situation occurred when the New Orleans Saints acquired long snapper Jon Dorenbos in 2017 when he was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Saints.
A few weeks after being traded, it was revealed that Dorenbos was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm that required open-heart surgery, forcing him to retire.
The Saints also detected a heart condition in DT Nick Fairley in the summer of 2017.
He was placed on the reserve/non-football-illness list ending his 2017 season, and the team released him the following season.
As Moreau battles cancer, the NFL community and the world are praying for him and hoping he can overcome the disease.
