What happened to Jalen Hurts? Eagles QB misses Week 16 clash with unexpected injury
In the first half of Sunday's matchup against the Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts left the game after suffering a concussion.
Hurts suffered the injury on a running play as he collided with two Commanders defenders, with the officials sending him to the sideline to get evaluated.
Hurts' injury was deemed a concussion and he was soon ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The Eagles' X account confirmed the development.
"Injury Update: QB Jalen Hurts (concussion) is out," @Eagles tweeted.
Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett is filling in for Hurts in his absence. Hurts finished the game completing 1 of 4 passes for 11 yards and had three carries for 41 yards.
The Eagles got off to a fast start, leading 21-7 after the first quarter. Saquon Barkley had two rushing touchdowns. Pickett then threw a TD pass to AJ Brown.

Entering Week 16, the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions have 12-2 records.
With three games left, all three teams are looking to finish with the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Lions control their fate and would earn the No. 1 seed by winning out.
Detroit is leading the Chicago Bears 20-7 in the first half. The Eagles lead the Commanders 21-14 and the Minnesota Vikings will face the Seattle Seahawks at 4:05 p.m.
