What happened to Jordan Addison? Vikings WR suffered injury vs. Giants
After a stellar 2023, Jordan Addison was slated to be a key offensive weapon for the Minnesota Vikings this fall. Last season, he recorded 911 yards on 70 receptions and scored 10 touchdowns. But in Minnesota's season opener against the New York Giants today, things took a bad turn for the 22-year-old.
In the third quarter, Giants LB Darius Mausau rolled Addison's ankle. Afterwards, the budding second-year wideout limped to the locker room. News reports stated he would miss the rest of the game.
Addison first reported a left ankle injury during a joint training session with the Cleveland Browns. He subsequently missed several practices ahead of the Viking's opening game. While fans questioned if the 22-year-old would play against the Giants, coach Kevin O'Connell gave him the go-ahead.
Luckily, the injury came late in the game, after the Vikings scored 21 points while holding the Giants to a paltry 6. Despite the absence of their star wideout, they scored another touchdown, which sealed their 28-6 win.
Before exiting the game, Addison recorded 35 receiving yards and three receptions. Justin Jefferson, the other star wideout for the team, recorded 59 yards, four receptions and one touchdown.
Jordan Addison injury update
After the game, Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell stated his wideout didn't hurt the same foot he injured during the Browns training session. This is bad news for Vikings fans because Addison now has two injured ankles.
When discussing Addison's recovery timeline, the 36-year-old coach said he didn't have more information.
While beating the Giants was relatively easy for Minnesota, their road only becomes rockier. Next week, they face the defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers. After that, they battle the reigning AFC South champion Houston Texans.
The silver lining is that Addison did not have to be carted off the field. Check back for updates regarding the health status of Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison.
