What happened to Omar White? Deion Sanders’ Colorado commit arrested in connection with shooting incident
One of Deion Sanders' 2024 commits is facing serious charges for his alleged involvement in a shooting.
Omar White, a four-star defensive lineman, was arrested on Monday, March 6, 2023 in Valdosta, Georgia. This was in relation to a shooting that took place on February 26, 2023 that injured three people.
White is charged with felony aggravated assault, felony possession of a firearm during a crime and felony aggravated battery. The charges are regarding two separate, yet related shootings that took place in the early morning hours of February 26.
All three victims were taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries before being released. Another person involved in the shootings was also charged.
White committed to Sanders and the University of Colorado Buffaloes in December 2022. He was ranked as the fifth-best recruit in Colorado's 2024 recruitment class. White is also listed in the top 150 of the 2024 recruitment class.
The University of Colorado and coach Deion Sanders are yet to comment on the situation regarding Omar White.
What will Deion Sanders do regarding the arrest of 2024 committ Omar White?
Since being hired by the University of Colorado as the head coach of the Buffaloes team, Deion Sanders has reiterated his goal. He is looking for players with good character who will represent the university and the program well.
With the arrest of 2024 defensive line committ Omar White, Deion Sanders has been put in a tough position. While White hasn't been found guilty, Sanders could easily pull his scholarship offer.
“These young men are going to be on campus respectful and considerate and kind, opening doors for you and making sure everything is copacetic. And they’re gonna say ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir’, ‘yes ma’am’ and ‘no ma’am’ or they’re going to have to deal with me. That’s just the way I father, that’s the way I parent, that’s the way I coach.” - Deion Sanders.
While the university and head coach likely won't comment on ongoing investigations, revoking a scholarship offer could be the next step. If he is to realize his goal of recruiting players with good character, Sanders may have no choice.
Considering he is a 2024 committ, Sanders won't have to make that decision immediately. However, this will be a tell-tale sign of how he plays to run the program in the future.
