What happened to Taysom Hill? The Saints TE was carted off the field after taking a massive blow vs. the Ramst

New Orleans Saints tight end Taysom Hill suffered what appears to be a gruesome injury during Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Hill, who's used in a variety of manners on the Saints' offense, was involved in a running play where he took over to the left. Cornerback Cobie Durant ran into his front to stop the run, and as he fell, his helmet hit Taysom's knee heavily. He stayed on the ground after the play was over.

Taysom Hill was carted off the field after the injury, with the Saints' public relations team announcing that he was doubtful to return to the game. However, the contest in New Orleans was already in the fourth quarter, and Hill didn't even return to the sideline before the end as the Rams won 21-14.

With New Orleans quickly ruling him as doubtful, it was clear that it was a serious injury. Former NFL doctor David Chao, popular on X for his analysis of NFL injuries, said that it's potentially long-term injury for the tight end, with a strong probability of a season-ending problem.

Taysom Hill's stats in the 2024 season

The tight end is once again keeping his versatility as a useful threat for New Orleans' offense. He has been used as a rusher, a receiver and a passer, although his numbers throwing the ball have not impressed.

Taysom Hill, who spent time as a quarterback with the franchise, has two passes completed out of four attempts in 2024, with 21 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

As a receiver, his impact is clearer. He has 18 receptions out of 24 total targets, with 150 receiving yards but no touchdowns. This is more in line with what he can do as a 34-year tight end: he's not an elite player, but he can be on the field.

His bigger impact comes as a rusher. He has 268 yards and an excellent average of 7.9 yards per carry, by far the biggest number of his career. He also has six touchdowns in just seven games, which makes him an even more difficult player to defend.
