What happened to Aaron Donald? Rams' miseries continue to pile up
The Los Angeles Rams have had a disappointing season thus far. Now, they have more bad news regarding their defensive star Aaron Donald.
Donald suffered an ankle injury in the Rams' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday, and it could be serious.
Per head coach Sean McVay, Donald is dealing with an ankle sprain. He will undergo more tests with team doctors to determine how serious the injury is. McVay hasn't ruled out the possibility of shutting Donald down for the season if necessary. In addition, wide receiver Cooper Kupp and quarterback Matthew Stafford have suffered injuries as well.
It wasn't clear when Donald suffered an injury in the game, but he met with team doctors following the loss after having a bothered ankle.
The misery continued for the Rams as they fell to 3-8 on the season and sit in last place in the NFC West.
Aaron Donald's 2022 stats
There is a chance that Aaron Donald could have played his last snap for the Rams during the 2022-2023 season.
McVay hasn't ruled out the possibility of sitting Donald out for the rest of the season if the severity of his injury calls for it.
Through 11 games, Donald has been impactful on the defense. He's recorded 49 tackles, five sacks, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, two pass deflections, and 11 quarterback hits.
The Rams extended Donald's contract this off-season, but he pondered retirement before committing to the team. If Donald changes his mind about chasing more Super Bowls, it won't completely rule out retirement.
Donald has won three Defensive Player of the Year awards, eight Pro Bowls, is a seven-time First Team All-Pro, Defensive Rookie of the Year, and is one of the best defensive players of all time.
