When is the 2024 NFL Trade Deadline? All you need to know

Each year when the NFL Trade Deadline approaches, rumors start to heat up about players that could potentially be moved. Most of the time, a few big trades happen before the deadline is up. Some of the trades are big surprises while others aren't so much.

Today, the NFL announced that the 2024 NFL Trade Deadline will be on Tuesday, November 5. The trade deadline will come after Week 9 instead of after Week 8, per a new rule passed by the league. The 2024 NFL Trade Deadline also happens to fall on the same day as Election Day.

In 2021, the NFL expanded the regular season by adding one more regular season game, making each team play 17 games. When the league added an additional game in the regular season, it didn't adjust the NFL trade deadline.

The rule was submitted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and will be in place during the 2024 season.

Last season, the NFL Trade Deadline was on October 31, at 4:00 p.m. ET. There were many notable trades from last off-season that took place before the deadline.

Here are some notable trades that happened before last year's deadline:

The Washington Commanders sent defensive end Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round pick. Washington also dealt DE Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears for a second-round pick.

The Buffalo Bills acquired cornerback Rasul Douglas and a fifth-round pick from the Green Bay Packers for a third-round pick.

Another big defensive trade happened when the Seattle Seahawks acquired defensive lineman Leonard Williams from the New York Giants. This was in exchange for a second-round pick in 2024 and a fifth-round pick in 2025.

Other players who were traded at the deadline included safety Kevin Byard, quarterback Josh Dobbs, guard Ezra Cleveland, and wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Like most seasons, this year's NFL trade deadline should produce some fireworks and maybe the additional week to negotiate for players will make more teams offer up.
