When Patrick Mahomes was a 'little' shocked by Tyreek Hill's 2022 trade to Miami
At the start of his NFL career, Patrick Mahomes had Tyreek Hill as his top wide receiver. After going to back-to-back Super Bowls, winning one, Hill and the Kansas City Chiefs parted ways.
The wide receiver was expected to sign a contract extension, but the talks between him and the Chiefs didn't go as planned. After six seasons with the Chiefs, Hill asked for a trade and it was granted. A few weeks after he was traded in 2022, Mahomes was asked about it in an interview with Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
“It more surprised me whenever it got to the point where we were really considering trading him,” Mahomes said. “They kept me updated the entire time; I knew the extension talks were going on. And then I knew when he got the permission to seek to get traded. But I mean, still, I played my entire career with Tyreek, so definitely, there was a little bit of shock when he got traded."
Mahomes added:
"Tyreek, he’s such a tremendous player, he got what he deserved. I’m happy for him."
Tyreek Hill pushed back at rumors of a reunion with Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes lost one of his top offensive targets in Rashee Rice last week when the wide receiver suffered a serious knee injury. The Kansas City Chiefs are 4-0 and while the offense has struggled, Rice made an impact each week and losing him for the foreseeable future isn't great news.
This week, rumors have circulated on social media that the Chiefs may be interested in a reunion with Tyreek Hill. The Miami Dolphins have struggled since Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion and Hill hasn't seen the type of production he is used to.
Hill told reporters on Wednesday that he is comfortable in Miami.
"I'm just focused on right here and right now. We've got a beautiful team here and I want to be a part of it," Hill said. "We've got a great situation here, my family loves it, I enjoy it, the weather's great, the fans are great. So, we've got a beautiful situation here, man."
Patrick Mahomes could use another offensive target and the Chiefs are likely to make a move before the trade deadline.
