When Patrick Mahomes took responsibility after Chiefs' 2021 Super Bowl loss to Tom Brady-led Bucs: "It was a bad feeling"
Patrick Mahomes has led the Kansas City Chiefs to three Super Bowl titles. The team has made four appearances in the big game since the 2019 NFL season. Amongst the success Mahomes and the Chiefs have had, the loss to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV was a feeling the quarterback never wanted to have again.
On Monday, February 8, 2021, Patrick Mahomes spoke to reporters the morning after the 31-9 loss to the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium. The quarterback described the feeling in the locker room after the devastating loss as "bad" and said it wasn't something he ever wanted to experience again.
"It was a bad feeling in that locker room after the game. You don't want to have that feeling again," Mahomes told reporters via ESPN.
Mahomes added that he planned on spending time this offseason watching films from Super Bowl LV. He said he wanted to learn from what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defense did to defeat them as a way to be prepared in the future.
Patrick Mahomes considers Tom Brady comparison an 'honor'
Tom Brady may have defeated Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LV but the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is seen as someone following in his footsteps. On Sunday morning, Brady, now a broadcaster with FOX Sports, interviewed Mahomes.
The 29-year-old quarterback told the seven-time Super Bowl winner that he considered it an "honor" to be compared to Brady. He said he knows he has a long way to go before he could be considered as successful as the former quarterback.
"It's honestly an honor," Mahomes told Brady. "I"m not saying that because you're sitting here. You did it the right way. I think more than even the Super Bowls, it was the consistency you showed every single year, every single day.
"You came to work, and you came to win. For me, it gives me something to chase [getting to seven Super Bowl championships]. It's going to be hard to get there, but I'll do my best trying to get there."
After winning the Super Bowl in each of the last two seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs are trying to do something no other NFL team has done: win three in a row. As of right now, the Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated with a 6-0 record.
