When will Brock Purdy be back for 49ers? QB offers details on long timeline to return
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy got hurt in the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Purdy's elbow was injured after Eagles starlet Hassan Reddick took him down and he was replaced by Josh Johnson, who later suffered a concussion.
Many anticipated that Purdy would need Tommy John surgery, which would keep him out for the majority of next season. But the 49ers quarterback expects to be out for considerably less time.
Here's what Purdy said on SiriusXM about his timeline for recovery:
"They call it a hybrid, it's a repair plus reconstruction and that's the other option. But there's no Tommy John in the equation at this point, that's more of a baseball injury. So that's, those are our two options. Obviously, they're thinking of repair for sure.
"Going into it, and then a six-month timetable and be back for camp. My whole life man, I've trusted in God, I believe that he's always had this plan.
"I truly believe that with this in this situation, you know, going through my rehab process, I know, it says plan man and I trust it and that's how I handle it."
The San Francisco 49ers lost four quarterbacks through the course of this past season, derailing them from making it to the Super Bowl. However, the situation is likely to improve for them next campaign.
Purdy expects to be back in time for training camp in order to compete for the starting quarterback position for the 49ers. Given that Trey Lance will be returning as well for next season, it will be intriguing to see which young quarterback gets the nod to start in Week 1 next season.
Brock Purdy exceeded all expectations in his rookie season
Brock Purdy was the last player to be picked in the 2022 NFL draft, and nobody thought he would make any contribution to the 49ers since they had Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. Injuries to both Lance and Garoppolo gave Purdy an opportunity to shine, and he took advantage of it.
In his rookie season, Brock Purdy had a passer rating of 107.3 with 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns, and four interceptions in nine games. Purdy was undefeated with the 49ers until he was injured in the NFC Championship game, which led to his team's defeat.
