When will Joe Mixon return to action? Everything we know about Texans RB's injury
Houston Texans fans received bad news after Joe Mixon went down with an apparent injury following a hip drop tackle by Chicago Bears linebacker TJ Edwards during Sunday night's game. Mixon's ankle turned while Edwards dragged him in the third quarter. Per reports, Mixon will miss time due to the injury.
However, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN, he'll probably miss just one or two games after avoiding season-ending damage to his ankle.
"Staying on running backs (and in Texas), as of Tuesday evening it didn't sound as if the Texans are expecting Joe Mixon's ankle injury to be a season-ender. He might end up having to sit out a game or more, but after getting encouraging results on initial testing, the Texans don't think it's a long-term injury."
"How much, if anything, Mixon can do at practice this week will help determine a timetable. Look for Cam Akers to assume a larger role if Mixon misses time."
Even though they'll miss him for at least one game, this is still encouraging news for the Texans, considering how many touches he has had, especially in the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
He ran for 159 yards and a touchdown against their divisional rivals before adding 25 against the Bears. The injury prevented him from adding more to his account, but Mixon already showed that he can be valuable to CJ Stroud and company.

Joe Mixon was not happy with the referees missing the call on the hip drop tackle he suffered from TJ Edwards. The NFL banned this play before the start of the season but referees did not call it and let the league address it. Mixon then took to X on Monday and lashed out against the lack of penalization on that play.
“The NFL and NFLPA made it a rule and an emphasis for a reason. Time to put your money where your mouth is.”
The Texans came out of NRG Stadium victorious despite losing Mixon. Cam Akers finished the game with seven carries and 32 yards — a number likely to go up in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Meanwhile, Joe Mixon and the team received good news, but the exact timetable for his return hasn't been set yet.
