Where are the Mexican NFL games being played? Stadium, seating capacity, tickets and cost explored

The NFL is set to make its season debut in the country of Mexico after playing games in both England and Germany.

In Week 11, the San Francisco 49ers will face the Arizona Cardinals at the famed Estadio Azteca Stadium. Only five other teams have played regular-season games in Mexico. These teams include the Las Vegas Raiders, Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Chargers.

The 49ers and Cardinals will each make their second appearance in Mexico in the matchup, joining the Raiders as the only teams to do so. The Week 11 game marks the fifth-ever regular-season game and the fourth of the International Series to be held in Mexico.

Back in the 2005-2006 season, the first-ever international NFL regular-season game was when the 49ers and Cardinals played in the country.

Knowing more about the Estadio Azteca as the NFL comes to Mexico

Estadio Azteca is one of the most famous soccer stadiums on the planet. It played host to the Mexican national team, along with soccer clubs Cruz Azul and Club América, both of whom play in the top league of Mexican soccer, Liga MX.

The stadium opened in 1961 and cost $260 million to build. The first match played at the stadium was held on May 1966 between the teams Club América and Torino F.C. in front of over 107,000 fans.

The stadium was built with the 1968 Summer Olympics in mind being held in Mexico City. The stadium also hosted soccer tournaments throughout those Summer Games.

The stadium currently has an official capacity of 87,523, but it has held substantially more over the years. In the 1994-1995 season, over 112,000 fans went to an NFL preseason game between the Houston Oilers and Dallas Cowboys at the stadium.

At an altitude of 7,503 feet, it's higher than the Empower Field at Mile High Stadium, home of the Denver Broncos, which stands at 5,195 feet. Per Stubhub, tickets for the San Francisco 49ers - Arizona Cardinals game at the Estadio Azteca ranged from $169 to $2,415.
