Who is Condoleezza Rice? Broncos part-owner to help look for new HC

Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is part of the Denver Broncos' new ownership group that purchased the NFL franchise earlier this year. She is one of the few minority and female team owners in the league.

On Monday, the Denver Broncos announced that they had fired first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett after just 15 games. The Denver Broncos, who are 4-11, are at a crossroads in the organization and general manager George Paton said that all staff members will be evaluated in the final two weeks of the season.

George Paton also mentioned that Condoleezza Rice will be an integral part of the search to find the next Broncos head coach. Denver will no doubt consider all options for their new head coach as the last hire did not pan out as planned.

Rice, whose career is based in politics, also has a strong sports connection. When she was growing up, her father was a football coach and he taught her everything she knows about the sport today. She has also stated that she is a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan. She was also on the first College Football Playoff Committee when it was first introduced in 2013.

#Broncos Paton said Evero will be interviewed for job. Also, other owners -- Rob Walton, Carrie Walton-Penner, Condoleezza Rice --will be involved in search. Penner is in charge here. Listening to this presser, surprised Paton kept his job. #Denver7

She became a member of the Denver Broncos ownership group in 2022. A few years prior, she was rumored to be interested in becoming the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, but she has since denied those rumors.

When was Condoleezza Rice the U.S. Secretary of State?

Condoleezza Rice was chosen by former United States President George W. Bush to be Secretary of State in November 2004 and was confirmed by Congress in January 2005. She had previously held the position of National Security Advisor for four years.

She recorded the most miles traveled of any U.S. Secretary of State as she traveled the globe, increasing foreign relations with the United States and its allies.

A lot of people seem upset and/or confused by this, but Condoleezza Rice is part of the Broncos' ownership group. She's there and invested in the outcome. There's no reason not to involve her in the process. twitter.com/NBCSEdgeFB/sta…

While many question the reasoning for her to be included in the head coach hiring process, she does have sufficient expertise to provide valuable input. Additionally, with the current climate of the Denver Broncos, it will take all hands on deck to choose a head coach that can turn things around in a hurry.
