Who is the starting QB for the Indianapolis Colts tonight vs. Chargers? MNF NFL Week 16
The Indianapolis Colts will be starting their third quarterback of the season as veteran Nick Foles will be under center versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Foles will start in place of Matt Ryan in Week 16.
The former Arizona Wildcats quarterback will be the starting quarterback for his sixth NFL team on Monday Night Football for the Colts. Foles signed with the Colts after being released by the Chicago Bears earlier this year.
Foles has started a total of 56 games in his career, giving the Colts some steadiness at the position. He started 32 games for the Philadelphia Eagles in five seasons with the team (2012 - 2014; 2017 - 2018). Foles led the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory, winning the Super Bowl MVP award.
In the 2015 - 2016 season, he started 11 games while starting just one game for the Kansas City Chiefs the following season. Foles signed a four-year, $88 million-dollar contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of the 2019 - 2020 season. However, his tenure with the Jaguars lasted just four starts being traded to the Bears during that season.
With the Bears, the quarterback started eight games. With Nick Foles now starting, how have the other two starters fared for the Colts this season?
The Indianapolis Colts and their tumultuous quarterback play this season
Matt Ryan started the first seven games of the season for the Colts before being benched by head coach Frank Reich. Sam Ehlinger took over for Ryan in Weeks 8 and 9, losing both his starts. Ehlinger threw for 304 yards and an interception in his two starts this season. Owner Jim Irsay fired Reich and Jeff Saturday took over as interim head coach.
Saturday inserted Ryan back into the starting role in Week 10. Saturday has now turned to Foles after the Colts' loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15. Foles will be the Indianapolis Colts' starter for the remainder of the season. In all, Ryan threw for 3,057 yards, 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 12 starts. We will see how Foles fares the rest of the 2022 -2023 season for the Indianapolis Colts.
