Why were C.J. Stroud’s fans Venmoing him money? Ohio State QB recites ‘insane’ story
C.J. Stroud played his college football career as a quarterback with the Ohio State Buckeyes in the extremely popular Big Ten Conference. They are one of the most high-profile teams in the entire country, playing in one of the most featured conferences. This means that his play on the football field will always be under the microscope by the media, but even more so by the fans.
Diehard fans of just about any team are often looking to be critical at any sign of trouble for their favorite teams and players. The Buckeyes have one of the biggest fanbases in the country, so they definitely qualify for this. C.J. Stroud recently acknowledged that this was the case for him during his college career and shared a story of his experience to go with it.
Stroud claimed that he doesn't have social media accounts during the season, presumably in an effort to block out some of the noise and simply focus on the task at hand. This apparently didn't stop Ohio State fans from finding a way to let him know about their feelings about any time he struggled during a game.
Fans were unable to contact him on his vacant social media accounts, so one way they used to grab attention was Venmo. They would send him small amounts of money on the app because doing so would allow them to include a personalized message. This is where they could criticize his play in hopes that would actually read it.
C.J. Stroud believes he's learned a lot from this "insane" experience that he had with the diehard fans of the Buckeyes. Hopefully, he did, as this could help him during his professional career at the next level. He's expected to be one of the top picks in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, so he will likely be under the microscope once again. It "comes with the territory" of being considered an elite prospect.
How high will C.J. Stroud be selected in the 2023 NFL draft?
C.J. Stroud is one of the highest-rated prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft class. He is included within a trio of quarterbacks who are all expected to be chosen in the top 10 picks of the draft, if not even higher than that. He joins Bryce Young of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Will Levis of the Kentucky Wildcats.
Which of the three prospects gets selected first may come down to a matter of preference for the team in need of a quarterback. The Chicago Bears currently own the number one overall pick, but are unlikely to go with a quarterback with Justin Fields, another Buckeye, on their roster.
This means that unless the Bears trade out the top pick, which is entirely possible, the Houston Texans are likely to choose a quarterback with the second overall pick. This all means C.J. Stroud could be as high as the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Even if he isn't, it's doubtful he falls below the first handful of picks.
