Why are Chiefs being accused of gaslighting NFL fans during Super Bowl celebrations?
The Kansas City Chiefs (and their fans) are busy celebrating another Super Bowl win with QB Patrick Mahomes. Millions of people gathered for the celebration parade, enjoying another victory with their favorite players. However, a few people might not agree with how the Chiefs or their fans have been reacting.
In a recent article by SB Nation's James Dator, the writer dived into the Chiefs stating that no one except for their own people believed in them. The list included Chiefs star Travis Kelce, who brought the haters up during his parade speech.
Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany chimed in on the same topic. Brittany demanded an apology from anyone who didn't believe in the team, while Mahomes called out people who said the Chiefs were in their rebuilding year.
"I think a lot of people need to apologize for what they said about this team at the beginning of this season," Brittany wrote.
Dator ended up sharing articles and statements from people believing in the Chiefs, indicating that the team was indeed exaggerating all the hate and negative comments sent their way.
They shared work from other publications, which mainly focused on how the Chiefs would end up winning as the season progressed.
Fans had mixed reactions to the Chiefs 'gaslighting' claim
That being said, not all fans agreed with the article. A few got defensive over the situation, pointing out instances where people did indeed count the Chiefs out. Others ended up agreeing with the claim, stating that Chiefs fans are the ones who constantly complain.
A few fans blamed it on the Chiefs fans, adding that they can never be happy.
Though some agreed, they believed the term gaslighting should be retired.
One user referred to Mahomes' speech, where he mentioned the word rebuilding. They explained that while no one spoke about rebuilding, they did not praise Mahomes (who also won MVP) as the favorite pick. For most people, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills would end up winning the season.
