Why did Lamar Jackson reject Ravens' offer? Recapping timeline as Baltimore sweats over 2019 MVP

It has been no secret that Lamar Jackson wants out of Baltimore. On Monday (March 27), Jackson officially announced that he requested a trade from the Ravens on March 2.

Jackson and the Ravens have seemingly not progressed in a long-term deal which forced them to franchise tag him right before the start of the new league year.

Jackson tweeted this morning that the Ravens are not interested in meeting his value.

"In regards to my future plans. As of March 2nd I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value, any and everyone that’s has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the Super Bowl.
"You all are great but I had to make a business decision that was best for my family and I. No matter how far I go or where my career takes me, I’ll continue to be close to my fans of Baltimore Flock nation and the entire State of Maryland. You’ll see me again."

Jackson was the team's first-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft. On April 30, 2021, the team picked up his fifth-year option for the 2023 season.

On June 24, 2021, reports emerged that the two sides were having conflicting talks on a contract extension. In early March 2022, both general manager Eric DeCosta and owner Steve Biscotti said that they wanted to extend Jackson long-term.

Right before the start of the 2022 season, the Ravens reportedly offered Jackson a deal worth more than Kyler Murray's that he declined.

On September 9, the Ravens announced that they would close the door on negotiations and that they would continue in the off-season.

DeCosta cont.: "We greatly appreciate how he has handled this process and we are excited about our team with Lamar leading the way. We will continue to work towards a long-term contract after the season, but for now we are looking forward to a successful 2022 campaign.” (2/2)

Lamar Jackson has made it publicly known that he does not want to play for the Ravens this year.

While it was a belief by many around the league for quite some time, he confirmed the news today on Twitter.

The two sides haven't been able to meet in the middle on a long-term deal as each side values his worth differently.

Despite Jackson's tweets today, head coach John Harbaugh is confident Jackson will be their QB this year.
