Why "Mad Dog" Russo is betting $10,000 on Aaron Rodgers' Jets
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn't get the start to his tenure with the New York Jets as he would have hoped. However, he has recovered from the Achilles injury he suffered in Week 1 of last season and is ready to help break the Jets' playoff drought.
Rodgers is getting some support on his journey to bring success to the Jets from longtime sports radio host Chris "Mad Dog" Russo. The latter was a guest on "The Dan Patrick Show" and declared that he was going to Las Vegas and placing a bet on the Jets.
"I'm gonna bet the Jets by the way. They're nine and a half, over under. Rodgers is due for some good luck, so I'm gonna bet over. I'm gonna put a bet they win 10 games, 10-7," he said.
"Rodger's healthy. I'm going to do that. I'll go to Vegas to do it. It's a year, It's a six-month bet. What do you think is a reasonable amount for me to bet not to what my bet is?"
After asking Dan Patrick how much of a bet he should place, the host replied:
"You've been called cheap, not by me but I'm gonna say $2,500."
"$10,000. That's a day's pay for you doing this show to my friend," Russo said.
Chris "Mad Dog" Russo's wager on Rodgers and the Jets comes just a few months after the host said the quarterback 'should keep his mouth shut' and just focus on football.
Aaron Rodgers addresses his absence from minicamp
Aaron Rodgers spoke to the media this week for the first time since he was absent from minicamp earlier this offseason. The 40-year-old took a trip to Egypt that was previously planned and that head coach Robert Saleh and the staff were aware of.
“I originally scheduled it based on the previous year’s schedule, which had us out, I believe, by the 9th or 10th. So once I saw the schedule, I was trying to move some things around. It just didn’t happen,” Rodgers said.
The quarterback spoke with his teammates and Robert Saleh and knew of the implications if he did miss practice.
"Back in some of the doldrums of the rehab, I thought it'd be fun to put together a trip with some friends. I had a great talk with Robert. Obviously he wanted me to be there. I knew the consequences if I wasn't going to be there," Rodgers added.
When asked if he was fined, Aaron Rodgers confirmed he was but he didn't disclose the amount of the fine.
