Why are NFL and Raiders being sued? Vegas law firm drops lawsuit amid Maxx Crosby situation
As the Raiders pursue their first big move of the post-Derek Carr era, a local law firm has gone after the team and the league. According to Daniel Kaplan on Twitter, Dimopoulos Law is calling out the franchise and the league for airing an advertisement with Maxx Crosby.
The defensive star himself wasn't the issue, but what he was wearing in the advertisement was. The firm is claiming that the silver and black uniform he wore allegedly infringed on their "colors," according to the lawsuit. The situation is a bit mind-boggling, so here’s a look at how the news broke.
While nothing is set in stone as to how the league and the team will handle the suit, the implications of the ruling could be staggering. If the league is forced to pay out, it would create a precedent that would force the team to, at the very least, avoid using the uniform in some or all advertisements.
Will the Raiders win the lawsuit?
At the most, it could potentially lead to the Raiders becoming the second team in recent years to undergo a brand change. Of course, the law firm first needs to take on the NFL and win. Considering the depth of the league's pockets, it could be a fight similar to that of David and Goliath.
Las Vegas Raiders weigh future without Derek Carr
After nearly a decade, the team said their goodbyes to their quarterback and are headed into the open ocean. At this point, Aaron Rodgers and a number of rookie prospects lie in wait. Most expect that if he does become available, No. 12 won't be around for long.
As such, the team could have a new quarterback in the next two weeks or, if not, will need to wait until the NFL Draft in April. Put simply, the team will either be waiting a short while or a long time and nowhere in the middle.
That said, if it is a long wait, fans will be telling themselves that getting a hit with a quarterback in his early 20s would be a big upgrade over getting a quarterback on the edge of turning 40.
