Why was Patrick Pass arrested? Everything we know about Patriots Super Bowl champ's Rhode Island incident
Former New England Patriots player Patrick Pass was arrested on Wednesday for assaulting an 82-year-old man at 'Planet Fitness' in Rhode Island last month, according to the police.
Boston 25 News reports that Pass is charged with bodily injury (felony) and disorderly conduct (misdemeanor) on a person over 60. The arrest happened after the North Providence police officers responded to the report from the gym.
On August 28, police officers found the victim suffering from pain in his lower back. Pass, 46, allegedly shoved the man after arguing with him over exercise equipment, sending him to the ground and causing the pain he then suffered.
Patrick Pass is due back in court in December after he was arraigned in Providence's third district court. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Pass was selected by the Patriots in the 2000 NFL Draft, playing as a fullback and becoming a three-time Super Bowl champion with the AFC East franchise. He played in the XXXVI, XXXVIII and XXXIX editions of the Super Bowl, winning the Vince Lombardi on each occasion.
Pass rushed for 526 yards during his eight-year NFL career, including three rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown. His best season came in 2005 when he posted 245 rushing yards and 227 receiving yards with New England.
NFL fans react to Patrick Pass arrest news
It didn't take long for NFL fans to learn about the Patrick Pass news, with some of them questioning why former players tend to act this way after retirement.
"Why are they always so violent?" One fan wrote.
"Always famous people who don’t know how to act," another fan said.
"The fall off that some professional athletes have is wild," another fan wrote.
Another fan made jokes about Pass thinking he's still in the NFL while a couple of fans made fun of Pass working out at Planet Fitness.
"He gotta realize he’s not blocking anymore," one fan said.
After leaving the Patriots and signing with the New York Giants in 2007, Patrick Pass only played one game for the team that would eventually beat the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl. He joined Bill Belichick's team again in 2009 but only lasted one week with them before retiring from the NFL.
This is a developing story and more details will come up as the investigation continues and Pass gets back in court in the next couple of months.
