Why is Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes being called out with ‘all due disrespect’ by WWE’s Paul Heyman?
Patrick Mahomes won Super Bowl MVP, but even that isn't enough to warrant respect from Paul Heyman of the WWE. Mahomes was seen in the locker room after the game with a WWE championship belt after leading a 10-point comeback to win.
In the Super Bowl parade, Mahomes could be seen wearing the belt around his waist, and Heyman didn't like any of it. He called out the MVP on Instagram:
"Being the Super Bowl Winning QB must be the second best feeling in sports, next to being the reigning defending undisputed WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion in the main event of the box office record smashing WrestleMania 39, RomanReigns! Patrick Mahomes, here's the Kansas City Chiefs' big time hero, cosplaying his fantasy of being YOUR Tribal Chief.
"Or, since he's never going to be on the level of the # Head Of The Table, perhaps he's doing a little roleplay as the Wiseman? In which case, I offer to Mr. Mahomes, with any false humility aside, and all due (dis)respect, I do it so much better than you, kind sir."
Heyman didn't appreciate Mahomes celebrating with their memorabilia, a belt that the WWE manager obviously holds in high regard. It's only bestowed on, in his eyes, legitimate WWE winners and not an NFL quarterback.
How did Patrick Mahomes win Super Bowl MVP?
Patrick Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks on the planet and among the best in history. But on the field during the Super Bowl, Mahomes was not the best player out there. That would be Jalen Hurts.
However, since Hurts lost the game, he was very unlikely to win MVP. It had to go to a Chief. Nick Bolton nearly had two fumbles returned for touchdowns. If the second had counted, he surely would've been MVP.
No one else really stood out. Kadarius Toney scored a five-yard touchdown on a wide open pass and returned a punt 65 yards for a Super Bowl record. He otherwise was a non-factor.
Everyone else had roles in the win, but no one really stood out. Thus, Mahomes earned it for leading the comeback and tossing three touchdowns in the process.
