Will Christian McCaffrey play vs. Eagles in the NFC Championship game on Sunday? Big update on the star RB
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has been under an injury cloud all week in Santa Clara.
The former Carolina Panthers player suffered a calf injury in the 19-12 win over the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
The 26-year-old, along with Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell, did not practice all week.
There were fears that all three could miss the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Who are the favorites for the Super Bowl?
McCaffrey has now dispelled all rumors, giving the clearest indication of his game status for Sunday's game at Lincoln Financial Field.
The running back had a rather definitive answer when asked about the possibility of missing Sunday's clash.
McCaffrey simply said: "zero."
Take that for what it is! The running back is taking his place for the 49ers as they look to go one better than they did last year when they succumbed to the Los Angeles Rams.
New lease of life for Christian McCaffrey after 49ers switch
The 26-year-old running back was clearly getting bogged down in Carolina. So, when the team made the decision to essentially give him away for a half-eaten packet of chips, the 49ers jumped on the chance.
Given the style of offense that Kyle Shanahan likes to run, getting the 26-year-old fit would add a huge dimension to an already potent offense.
McCaffrey exploded for San Francisco with four 100+yard rushing games in the last six. That'll work.
He finished with yet another year of over 1,000 rushing yards (1,139 to be exact) and eight touchdowns. Adding to his running ability out of the backfield, he also caught 85 passes for 741 yards and five touchdowns as he continued to press his claim for the best back in football.
Having a fit McCaffrey on Sunday would be critical for the 49ers if they are to slay the Eagles in their own stadium.
