CJ Mosley injury update: Will LB play in Week 3?
According to reports, CJ Mosley is out of tonight's intradivisional game against the New England Patriots with a toe injury, which forced him to leave last Sunday's 24-17 win at the Tennesee Titans. According to him, it is just a minor sprain, not a fracture or a condition called turf toe.
This represents a significant blow because he is the Jets' on-field defensive play-caller who has the comms to the coaching staff led by Robert Saleh.
In his place, Jamien Sherwood will start.
Other inactive starters besides CJ Mosley in Jets-Patriots Thursday Night Football clash
Joining CJ Mosley in the inactive starters list are Patriots offensive linemen Vederian Lowe (knee) and Sidy Sow (ankle).
The two are responsible for protecting the blindside, which is bad news for quarterback Jacoby Brissett as he prepares to face a front seven that, despite lacking Mosley, Jermaine Johnson II (season-ending Achilles tear), and Haason Reddick (contract holdout), still boasts Javon Kinlaw, Micheal Clemons, and the Williams brothers, Quincy and Quinnen.
The bad news does not stop there, however. Center David Andrews (hip) and right tackle Mike Onwenu (wrist) are also questionable, though they did practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday.
The defense will miss linebackers Ja'Whaun Bentley (shoulder) and Oshane Ximines (knee), who were hurt in the 20-23 overtime loss against the Seattle Seahawks. With the former reportedly done for the year, he will be replaced as starter and play-caller respectively by Raekwon McMillan and safety Kyle Dugger.
