Will Russell Wilson play this week? Steelers HC Mike Tomlin makes plans clear for SNF Week 5 vs Cowboys

With Russell Wilson and Justin Fields both as worthy starters, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin mentioned his strategy for the upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys regarding his QB choice. Three days before their season opener, Wilson injured his calf, and Fields stepped up.

Fields has been the shot-caller for the Steelers in all four games, taking the team to a 3-1 record. However, as Wilson restarts full training, Fields’ position as the starter is in doubt. Tomlin was asked about his QB plans for the home game against the Cowboys.

“Asked Mike Tomlin if he's preparing for Justin Fields to start Sunday as he stands here today: "Yes I am."

Sunday's game is set to kick off at 08:20 PM ET at Acrisure Stadium.

Russell Wilson has lost his job to Justin Fields, suggests NFL insider

Justin Fields has been racking up yards and touchdowns in the absence of Wilson. The 25-year-old has 830 passing yards for three touchdowns in four games. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on Monday during his appearance on SportsCenter said:

“We heard last week Mike Tomlin come out and say that he wasn’t ready to proclaim Justin Fields yet as the No. 1 quarterback in Pittsburgh, but he certainly has played that way so far. Now this is a week, a Sunday night game against the Dallas Cowboys, in which Russell Wilson finally was expected to be over that calf injury and ready to play,” said Schefter.
“So, if Russell Wilson is not playing on Sunday night, that would tell you that Justin Fields, for the time being, has wrestled away the starting quarterback job from Wilson, who entered the season as the starter until he hurt that calf injury during training camp.”

If Fields continues to improve his performances, as he has done throughout the season, Wilson’s career at the Steelers might be in trouble.
