"Worst golfer of all time" - When Pat McAfee gave damning verdict on WWE superstar The Miz
Pat McAfee and The Miz share a common passion for golf, but if we were to believe one over the other, the WWE superstar would not be that good at it. While appearing at the American Century Championship in July last year, they ran into each other, where the former NFL player declared that The Miz was the worst golfer of all time.
It was all in good fun, though, as the wrestler contended that the only thing he was concerned about on the scoreboard was the amount of fun he was having. It culminated in Pat McAfee and others leaving him alone at his table as the odd one out.
Take a look at the hilarious video coupled with the highlights below:
Was The Miz as bad as Pat McAfee suggested?
Naturally, there was some hyperbole involved in the statement, but it was not as egregious either.
Eighty-seven celebrities participated in the tournament, and The Miz finished 83rd among them. In fact, another NFL player, Robert Griffin III, was the worst golfer of the tournament. The former NFL quarterback propped up the board.
However, there was another former NFL quarterback who won it all. Tony Romo took home his third crown with triple-champion Mark Mulder in second. Joe Pavelski came in tied second, followed by another NFL player in fourth. Adam Thielen finished with the same score as golf GOAT Annika Sorenstam.
Despite his boasts, Pat McAfee was not as dominant as he would have liked to be. He finished tied 61st with Alex Caruso. His compatriot on the show, AJ Hawk, finished slightly better than him in 53rd position. Aaron Rodgers, a frequent collaborator on his channel, was miles better than either of them, ending up ninth on the leaderboard.
Held at the Edgewood Tahoe golf course, the tournament has continued to attract top celebrities to play golf during July, and the dates are already set for the next event. Continuing with its tradition from 1990, we will see the upcoming iteration being held from July 12 to 16, 2023.
That gives all the participants last year who wish to participate again another six months to prepare. With the NFL season over, Pat McAfee might find more chances to get his game in order to climb up the leaderboard. Whether The Miz will improve his game sufficiently to challenge him, should he return after his humbling experience last time, is another matter.
