"You can respect the honesty": Kevin Durant reacts to Anthony Richardson tapping out of Texans game
NBA superstar Kevin Durant shared his thoughts on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson's decision to pull himself from the game for a snap due to fatigue during the Colts' 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans over the weekend.
Richardson's choice to leave the game due to exhaustion was unexpected and not something fans typically witness, especially from a quarterback.
Durant, the Phoenix Suns star who played college basketball in Texas, discussed the situation on the "Up & Adams" show, saying he was surprised by the Colts QB's decision but also noted that it was understandable.
"You can obviously be tired, but that's part of sports," Durant said. "But as the quarterback though, in other sports, yeah you can probably take yourself out, in basketball yeah I can take myself out. But, as the main guy, the quarterback, it's hard to do that.
"So, I understood why people were on him, but I understand that he was tired. But, I don't think he can come out of the game and positon like that, maybe I'm wrong... You can respect the honesty."
Richardson ended up finishing the game going 10-for-32 for 175 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Colts bench Anthony Richardson in Week 9
The Indianapolis Colts have decided to bench Anthony Richardson, opting to start Joe Flacco against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9.
Richardson has struggled this season, completing 59 of 133 passes for 958 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The benching comes after Anthony Richardson decided to pull himself from the game against Texas and his admission that he did so because of fatigue.
“Tired, I ain’t gonna lie,” Richardson said when asked about the play after the game, via The Athletic. “That was a lot of running right there that I did, and I didn’t think I was gonna be able to go that next play. So, I just told (Colts coach Shane Steichen) I needed a break right there.”
The Colts will go on the road to play the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football on Nov. 3.
