"You deserve to be fired": Ex-NFL QB goes off at Shane Waldron after OC's exit from Bears

The Chicago Bears fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron just after nine games in the 2024 NFL Season following the team's 19-3 loss at home to the New England Patriots in Week 10 on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel didn’t hold back at all in his assessment of the move on FS1's "The Facility".

The Bears are 4-5 and sitting at the bottom end of the NFC North. With rookie quarterback Caleb Williams at the helm, Bears fans' expectations for a high-powered offense have not materialized. The team's offense appears to lose momentum each game and since the bye week, the decline has become more pronounced. Three straight losses have added the sting.

Daniel said the team's struggles offensively are largely on Waldron, not Williams.

“When you have a rookie quarterback who you draft number one overall not playing the way he's playing, it happens to you, and that's the biggest issue... I feel bad for Bears fans today, but this move needed to be made."

Bears head coach promotes offensive passing game coordinator to fill Waldron's shoes

Coach Matt Eberflus made the decision to elevate Thomas Brown as the new offensive coordinator of the Bears after Waldron was fired Tuesday.

“Thomas is a bright offensive mind who has experience calling plays with a collaborative mindset. I look forward to his leadership over our offensive coaching staff and his plan for our players,” Eberflus said.

Brown was offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers last season. Before that, he worked with the Los Angeles Rams from 2020-23. In 2021, as an assistant head coach and running backs coach, he became a Super Bowl champion when the Rams defeated the Bengals, 23–20.

Before foraying into coaching in 2011, Brown played with the Atlanta Falcons in 2008 and with the Cleveland Browns from 2009–10.
