"You may piss off Aaron Rodgers" - Jets warned against move for former NFL MVP
Aaron Rodgers appears to be all but done with the Green Bay Packers. While the New York Jets and Packers have been talking about a deal for the quarterback, nothing has been set in stone. Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson has made himself a little bit more available, as he revealed that he requested a trade from the Ravens earlier this month.
In response to the bombshell, ESPN's "Get Up" crew began speculating about the odds of the Jets pursuing the younger option. NFL analyst Tedy Bruschi ultimately cautioned the team against the move amid the current situation, claiming it could blow up the deal for No. 12:
Will Aaron Rodgers be a member of the New York Jets in 2023?
"Do you think Aaron Rodgers takes things personal? The answer is 'yes.' Yes, he takes things personal. ... If you do this, you better be so cloak and dagger about it. You better be creepin' at midnight darkness, making phone calls where these quarterbacks, these agents, no one knows what you're doing. Because this was [pre-planned]."
He continued, explaining that too many things were already in motion to attempt to go in a new direction now:
"They got Nathaniel Hackett, they got (Allen) Lazard. They've already traded a second-round pick. I mean, he is coming. So if you are out there making contingency plays, you may piss off Aaron Rodgers the way the Packers did."
Aaron Rodgers awaits news of future with Green Bay Packers
As it stands, No. 12 is still a member of the team he's been with since before the original iPhone was released. However, in every other way, No. 12 appears to have moved on. Heading into the offseason, the quarterback saw three potential options. He could find a new team, return to the Packers or retire.
In comments made on the "Pat McAfee Show," he claimed he was all but ready to walk away from the game heading into his darkness retreat. However, he's had a change of heart and now intends to play for the New York Jets. Of course, once again, no transaction has taken place, putting the quarterback in essentially the same place as everyone else around the country.
How much longer will Green Bay have its veteran quarterback?
