"You really are an a**hole" - When Tom Brady was slammed for purchasing yacht days after taking PPP loan post COVID
Tom Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2020 on a two-year deal worth $50 million. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic affected businesses, the Paycheck Protection Program, or PPP, was created to help small business owners keep afloat and pay their employees.
Although the quarterback had made millions throughout his career, his TB12 business was apparently feeling the heat of shutdowns. TB12 sells supplements to help with healthy living and immune support. Which led Brady to apply for a PPP loan for the TB12 business.
According to a New York Post article in 2020, Tom Brady's company received a one million loan from the government. Many fans were outraged that the quarterback would take money from other legitimate small business owners when he could clearly afford to support his own. At the time, he and his then-wife, Gisele Bundchen, had an estimated net worth of $600 million.
But that wasn't all. Just days later, the quarterback bought a $2 million yacht in Florida. The $2 million Wajer 55S was named "Viva la Vida", or "Long Live Life" which also happens to be the name of Gisele Bundchen's environmental foundation that she created in hopes of improving the environment throughout the world.
The yacht was most notable for its participation in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl parade in February 2021, when Brady threw the Lombardi Trophy from the yacht to another boat filled with his teammates.
Tom Brady buys another yacht after retirement
While purchasing a $2 million yacht is impressive, why not upgrade to an even bigger and more expensive yacht after retiring? That's just what newly retired quarterback Tom Brady has done. Over the weekend, the seven-time Super Bowl champion was seen on his brand new $6 million yacht at a Hollywood, Florida marina.
The Wajer 77 is a 77-foot yacht named "TW12VE ANGELS," an obvious take on his iconic number 12. The yacht is like a small hotel that can sleep up to nine people. The 45-year-old is reportedly interested in using it to get to his home in the Bahamas, which is just a short route off the east coast of Florida.
Although the former quarterback will use the yacht in his retirement, it was built and purchased in early 2022 and officially registered in late February 2023.
