"You can't touch him" - Former Giants star claims the NFL changed the rules to favor Tom Brady
A lot of people would say that Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all time, but Hall-of-Fame New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor isn't one of them.
Taylor is amongst the greatest NFL players of all-time, with many considering him the best to ever do it.
The former Giants linebacker is a two-time Super Bowl champion, three-time Defensive Player of the Year and an MVP. He was also selected to 10 Pro Bowls and All-Pros.
Taylor made his appearance on the "I Am Athlete" podcast last week and spoke about an array of topics, including Tom Brady.
When asked who he thought was the greatest of all-time, he chose Joe Montana over Brady. He claimed that Brady had all the rules favoring him, meaning quarterbacks back in the day took more punishment. Here's how he put it:
"Joe Montana is still my man. I mean, let's say greatest quarterbacks and stuff, hey, I'm still with Joe Montana. I'm not going with Tom Brady.
"Tom Brady got all the rules on his side. You can't touch him. You can't catch him. If you hit him, if you breathe on him, they're gonna throw a flag."
The Giants legend added that if he had played against Brady, he would have hit him on every play:
"I don't understand how he drops back eight yards, and he's sitting in a little cocoon and they're not sending people at him. Why is the defense not sending people? Man let me tell you something. And that would have been appealing because if I'm playing I'm hitting him every play."
After speaking about Tom Brady, Lawrence Taylor left Aaron Donald off his top 5 defensive players list
While Lawrence Taylor had a hot take on the greatest quarterback of all-time, he had another hot take with his list of top-five greatest defensive players too.
When asked by the crew, Taylor left Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald off the list. He included himself and the following players:
“Reggie White, Deacon Jones... If you’re calling all positions, yeah, I gotta put (Deion Sanders) up there, too. Of course, Deion Sanders. Probably numbe four. I like Ronnie Lott. I think Ronnie Lott is a hell of a player."
Donald is a Super Bowl champion and three-time Defensive Player of the Year. He has been selected to nine Pro Bowls, is a seven-time All-Pro and was Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2014. He's arguably one of the top-five greatest defensive players of all-time, but Lawrence Taylor doesn't think so.
