In the 2022 NFL season up to this point, many rookies have played a big part in their teams' offenses so far.
Be it the quarterbacks, running backs, or wide receivers, many offensive stars have left a big mark on the NFL during their maiden campaigns.
We have seen many NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year recipients go on to become superstars in no time, such as Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Herbert. So, who is going to claim the award this season and become a contender for future greatness.
Here are the top three candidates for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year title after six weeks of the 2022 season.
#1 - Dameon Pierce
In a below-par Houston Texans side, running back Dameon Pierce has been a shining light and definitely in NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year contention.
So far this season, Pierce has rushed for 412 yards in five games, as well as clocking up three touchdowns.
He leads all first-year running backs in yards per game, averaging 82.4, as well as a more than decent 4.8 yards per carry.
The Texans seem to have become a run-heavy team as Pierce has established himself as the lynchpin to the offense, so expect him to be right near the top of the voting for Rookie of the Year.
#2 - Chris Olave
New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Chris Olave has had no trouble adapting to the NFL.
In five games so far this season, Olave has 389 receiving yards to go with two touchdowns. This number puts him over 80 yards clear of the next rookie, Drake London.
Olave has been excellent as a backup as the Saints have dealt with injuries to fellow wideouts Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry. If Olave can continue to show chemistry with quarterback Jameis Winston, he could be WR1 in New Orleans in no time.
#3 - Breece Hall
The New York Jets have been one of the surprise stories of the 2022 season thus far, as they sit 4-2 after six weeks. Much of this has been down to the excellent play of first-year running back Breece Hall.
Many were surprised when the Jets selected Hall despite having Michael Carter still on the roster. But the decision looks to have been vindicated as the two have become an elite tandem in no time.
Hall has 391 rushing yards and 218 receiving yards already, as he’s already established himself as a top dual-threat back in the NFL. Hall also knows how to find the end zone, clocking up four touchdowns already, including one in the Jets’ shock win over the Packers in Week 6.
