NFL Rumors: Cowboys fear Odell Beckham Jr. hasn't recovered fully from ACL injury
Where will free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. sign? Multiple reports on social media suggest that OBJ may not be able to step onto the football field during the 2022-23 season.
ESPN reporter Ed Werder tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that the Dallas Cowboys have concerns about Beckham Jr's health. The former Los Angeles Rams WR is recovering from a torn left ACL suffered in February during the Super Bowl. He also stated that OBJ may not be able to play until 2023.
The injury left Beckham sidelined for the year, and because of that, he is yet to sign with a team. Multiple reports came out in the week of Thanksgiving saying that OBJ is clear to play.
Perhaps the rumors of him being cleared to play were premature, as the Cowboys seemed to question his health on Tuesday, 6th December.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says there's no timetable on signing Odell Beckham Jr.
While there is a chance that he may not step onto the field this season, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hasn't put a timetable on signing the star receiver.
Jones joined 105.3 The Fan this morning and discussed the possibilities of signing OBJ.
"By no means are we at a position to say 'close' or where we are. We're just discussing the many options that are there."
"I'm going to kind of keep that one at bay, because that's degree. It's a lot different if you play one play or if you played or are available for a week and that week be the Super Bowl week, then if he's available the next week. And so everything in between. I would say that's a point of discussion — a player's own belief of where he is in becoming ready to play is real big."
Jones wants to add Beckham to the roster, as he knows it will improve his team. But from a financial standpoint, it may not make sense to sign him now if he can't step onto the field this season.
Jones added that OBJ will indeed improve the Cowboys this season:
"If this thing works, it will improve this team now. It will improve it this year. If we don't have that, then we're in a positive situation as well. It has to improve us now. You know that's a pretty tall order. And it has to improve us in a way that makes sense for us as we look not only this year but as it impacts the years to come relative to the financial aspect of it."
Odell Beckham Jr. has been linked to the Cowboys for quite some time. He was spotted last night in Dallas courtside at the Mavericks game with Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs.
All said and done, we should know where OBJ signs or what his status is for the rest of the season very soon.
